If you live in a city, chances are there’s not enough housing for you to rent without being cost burdened each month. City governments (who may mean well) refuse to increase zoning density, which can perpetuate the housing shortage. On top of that, the market struggles to create enough housing because there aren't enough tradespeople to build them.

There is no Plan(et) B.

Yup, U.S. buildings account for ~40% of CO2 emissions.

And we need to get to net zero CO2 emissions by 2050 to maximize the chances of limiting global warming to less than 2 degrees Celsius. National building code encourages lowering energy bills even if that means creating high embodied carbon homes.

Inequality is real.

Housing shortages create a wider wealth gap.

Housing inequality is intrinsically linked to wealth inequality. Everyone participates in the housing market, but racial discrimination in real estate, lending practices, and federal housing policy have left minorities out of the financial benefit. Cities attract people for the jobs and basic necessary income, but their housing shortages also create a wider wealth gap.

Government subsidies for Affordable Housing aren’t enough.

After decades of funding cuts and budget caps, 3 out of 4 families eligible for housing assistance are denied any help.

11 million renter households are severely housing cost-burdened, paying more than half of their limited incomes on rent. On top of that, federal minimum wages have stagnated since the 1970s.

At CoEverything, we believe in lowercase ‘a’ affordable housing - no government tax credits for us.

This means creating non-subsidized, naturally-occurring affordable urban housing for middle income (60-100% AMI) people, so that subsidies can shift to create capital ‘A’ Affordable Housing for lower income people (less than 60% AMI) where it is critically needed.

… Lower CO2 Emissions

Not just net zero energy, but low carbon buildings.

This means we make building low carbon, energy efficient buildings easier than building standard code minimum buildings. High performance buildings without the high price.

“Ownership for those who want it”

This means creating models that give the option to own real estate and/ or businesses to people who are typically left out. Alternative models for ownership - for those who want it.
