OBY House - Oakland, CA

Architecture, Co-Founders of Sister Co-op

CoEverything cofounders have spun off a sister company in Oakland, CA called OBY Cooperative, that leases backyard space from homeowners to cooperatively build, rent, and manage their ‘backyard homes,’ or detached ADUs to Oakland residents with HAP vouchers.

The 2 bedroom 1 bath units are designed as zero carbon and prefabricated with a 34.9-year land lease. Community investors will own cooperative shares of the backyard homes, while the homeowner will receive monthly payments of for leasing a portion of their backyard to the Co-op.

Low carbon methods were tested like all wood construction, reclaimed wood for framing, cork siding and insulation, helical pile foundations, and all plywood interiors.

In partnership with Arizmendi Construction Cooperative, OBY aims to double the number of ADUs they produce each year.
