CoBuild Concept
Construction labor, tradespeople, and carpenters are in high demand these days. In response to this shortage, developers often turn to prefabrication as a means for gaining efficiency through off-site construction. Panels designed to be carried by two people are especially useful in dense neighborhoods with infill lots - where volumetric, modular units and cranes can’t fit between existing buildings and power lines.
What if we were able to create a series of high performance, low carbon building panels that were so simple to assemble that it made building “green” easier than building “code”? We are exploring a distributed prefabrication model, where carpenters could build panels to spec in their garages, driveways, or at home in exchange for payment - all without the cost of renting and building out a factory. Imagine if the Gig Economy and Ikea and Prefab Construction all got together and had a baby - this could be the result!
