1 Part Backyard Home

1 Part Ground Lease

1 Part Permanently Affordable Rental Unit

Project Overview: The OBY House pilot project was a collaboration between Arizmendi Construction Coop and CoEverything. In 2020, they tested a backyard ground lease model of a sustainable, panelized, low carbon accessory dwelling unit, for rental using a Section 8 voucher through the Oakland Housing Authority. The design of the 2-bedroom 625 SF unit includes a helical pile foundation to eliminate concrete, cork facade that doubles as exterior insulation, and no gypsum board - all birch plywood interior wall finishes.
