Project Overview: This 6,000-square-foot tenant improvement transformed an empty retail space into a community-owned grocery store, designed to offer fresh, affordable food to Dorchester residents. Working closely with the Dorchester Food Co-op, we combined thoughtful architecture and engaging store design to create a welcoming and accessible environment that supports community health, local producers, and sustainability. (2020-2023)
CoEverything Highlights:
Led a 3-Part Community Design Workshop series with hundreds of member-owners and neighbors attending to shape the design of their store.
Facilitated multiple member-led committees and managed contract negotiations with the landlord and general contractor to bring the co-op vision to life.
Developed impactful marketing and fundraising materials and events to support DPO and MGCC matching grant crowdfunding campaigns, fostering community investment and outreach.
Collaborated with YouthBuildBoston and the Designery on stencil and mural concept for environmental graphics in the store, painted by volunteers and members.
Designed an inclusive, community-oriented space with sustainable fixtures that use all natural, chemical-free refrigerantss, flexible retail layouts, and clear wayfinding to make healthy food access intuitive and inviting for all.
